The department of Anatomy is one of the earliest and largest departments of the medical college housing a vast dissection hall which provides work space for 150 students at a time. Adequate number of cadavers, a museum well stocked with mounted specimens, charts and clay models aid learning. A cold storage system that can preserve 15 bodies is functional as is an automated embalming facility to embalm private and donated bodies. A demonstration room with a radiology lobby with numerous CT, MRI and X Ray images orient the students to applied radiological anatomy.
The department has ventured beyond pictorial description of histological images to the appropriate use of CCTV facilities to orient the students better, to histology. The department possesses a Carl-Zeiss research microscope with microphotography attachments to boost research activities.
The department caters to the academic needs of undergraduate students of medicine and involves in re-inforcing basic medicine skills for post graduate students of medicine.
