    The work profile includes teaching, diagnostic services and research. The department comprises of histopathology, cytopathology, clinical pathology and state of the art blood bank.

    The CCTV aided microscope with projection facilities has made discussion of slides for both teaching and diagnostic purposes, an easy task. The department was upgraded as a postgraduate training center and offers excellent scope for research activities. Nikon Eclipse E 400 research microscope, microwave for tissue processing, Leica semi-automated microtome, cytospin, cryostat, immunohistochemistry and cytochemistry kits, automated cell counters, coagulation analyzer etc are some of the major equipments which whet the faculty and postgraduate trainees in diagnostic and research activities.

    The blood bank is equipped with ultramodern gadgets like -80° and -30° deep freezers, refrigerator centrifuges, automatic plasma expressers and tube sealers, and is recognized as a Regional Transfusion Centre by the Government of India, with facilities to prepare, store and dispense blood components.The department is part to numerous national and international projects supported by the WHO and IARC including the project on Development of an Atlas of Cancer in India and Prevention of Carcinoma of Cervix with clinical trials on cryofreeze techniques. The clinical pathology section actively participates in external quality assurance programs.The pride of the department is its huge museum which has a stunning array of tissue specimens of all systems of the body, flow charts, models and collection of rare slides.
